CONFRONTING COVID TOGETHER

“As with Cipla, here at Cipla Foundation, every life matters. Rooted in our purpose, with these values as our guide, we have been facing the challenges that Covid brought with it – determined to stand strong with our partners and communities.

Together with our team, partners and advisors we have been striving to not only safeguard the most vulnerable amongst us, but to also strengthen their resilience. We bring you our Annual Report with the hope that it will inspire both new ideas as well as ways to work together.

To all those who have been sharing in our vision and taking it further, my unending thanks and gratitude. You did not let Covid stop you even when it meant taking personal risks, you stood by our communities. I am full of hope that with your resolve and confidence, we will come through this stronger than before.”

MAKING A DIFFERENCE

With Collaboration, Innovation and Community-Centeredness

Covid has changed all our worlds. We have come together like never before and yet so much remains undone. I am hopeful that this very spirit of fulfilling a shared purpose will carry us through further uncertainty and change.

At Cipla Foundation, we have spent this year forging multistakeholder partnerships to find innovative solutions to the challenges that the world is facing today. It reflects in our work in addressing India’s growing burden of non-communicable illnesses with a focus both on respiratory health as well as palliative care.

Our efforts during the pandemic speak to our constant endeavour to co-create holistic solutions with like-minded partners, institutions and our communities.

It can be seen in our large scale Covid testing project, Ummeed, the development of the one-of-its-kind SAANS face mask as well as our innovative digital education programme D-LEAD. Our latest initiative of setting up dedicated Pulmonary Rehabilitation Centres in Pune is helping patients recover their lung health after Covid. We are building on this with the hope to reach many more patients who have no access to such care.

We have come so far because of your continued support. Thank you for taking the time to read our Annual Report to learn more about our work. We hope to be guided by your suggestions.

CIPLA PALLIATIVE CARE & TRAINING CENTRE, PUNE

In 1997, long before the CSR law came into effect, Cipla set up a world-class palliative care centre to provide free-of-cost care to cancer patients and their loved ones. Cipla Foundation has been taking this legacy further.

A THRIVING FOUNDATION IN
SOUTH AFRICA

Beyond its CSR commitments, Cipla also has a Foundation in South Africa to take forward pathbreaking programmes for vulnerable communities.

MILES FOR SMILES

Miles for Smiles creates awareness and raises funds for Operation Smile which facilitates corrective surgery on children born with cleft lip and palates. For these children, a relatively quick, simple operation results in a life-changing smile. The Foundation strives to ensure that every child with a cleft lip or palate has access to this level of surgical care.

AJUGA

The first 1000 days of a child’s life – the time during which their ability to learn, grow, develop and thrive – can be profoundly affected by the quality of the care, nutrition and education they receive. Ajuga provides high-quality infrastructure to create an environment that addresses these needs. Through partnerships with non-profit organisations, the necessary training and support for teaching staff ensures that children are well developed in social, cognitive and motor skills.

SHA’P LEFT

For many people living in peri-urban and rural areas, access to quality primary healthcare services poses a significant challenge. Over-burdened State medical facilities are often congested, resulting in long waiting times for patients. The Foundation’s Sha’p Left initiative addresses these problems. It is a patient-centered, cost-aware, nurse-driven primary health care service in the heart of communities.

Cipla Foundation South Africa Contributes to the Vaccine Roll-Out

Collaboration is the key to achieving population immunity

To help ramp up the COVID-19 vaccine roll-out in South Africa, Cipla Foundation in partnership with USAID and Coca-Cola PenBev has built innovative, movable vaccination stations. These are deployed into various local communities to ensure equitable and convenient access to the vaccine.

The purpose-built vaccination stations are compliant with social distancing requirements, and provide cover and shelter for people waiting in queues before and after vaccination. Each station has the capacity to vaccinate up to 300 people per day. Currently, the 8 modular vaccination stations deployed inside Department of Health premises are helping to ramp up the Covid vaccine roll-out in South Africa.

We have grown from strength to strength while keeping the well-being of communities at the heart of all that we do. Explore Cipla Foundation’s timeline in India.

2011 | Taking the Baton Forward

The Foundation was formally registered as a legal entity to take forward social initiatives that Cipla had been historically supporting even before the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) law came into effect.

2011-12 | Understanding Community Needs

We reviewed existing initiatives across seven geographies where Cipla has manufacturing units (Patalganga, Kurkumbh, Goa, Indore, Baddi, Bengaluru & Sikkim), assessed community needs, mapped sustainable interventions and identified like-minded partners.

2012-14 | Forging Long-Term Partnerships

We strengthened community initiatives by onboarding projects like the Mobile Healthcare Units and spearheading innovative projects like the Baddi University programme for professional skilling. The Cipla Palliative Care & Training Centre, Pune continued to remain our flagship initiative.

2014-16 | Expanding Reach

In addition to growing existing projects, this phase saw a spate of new partnerships with projects like the Mobile Science Labs and vocational training courses. It also marked the one-of-its-kind long-term support for Tamil Nadu floods wherein we prioritized individuals with disabilities.

2016-18 | Creating Milestones

We stood by visionary initiatives like setting up of a world class chemistry laboratory in Pune, a state-of-the-art Thalassemia Center in Mumbai, supporting India’s largest study in pediatric Asthma, expanding the Mobile Healthcare Unit and Mobile Science Lab network and joining the global call for Hepatitis Elimination.

2018-19 | Strategic Growth

We consolidated our scope by identifying Health – primarily Palliative and Respiratory care – as our core focus. We began growing our work in these two areas through multiple partnerships across India. Alongside, we continued to reach out to communities near Cipla units with responsive Health, Skilling and Education initiatives and upholding our commitment to support humanitarian causes in Disaster Response and Disabilities.

2019-20 | Realigning Priorities

Since March 2020, we have been focussing a significant part of our efforts to respond to the unprecedented Covid pandemic. While our long-term vision remained unchanged, we realigned our focus to Covid response and reimagined our projects to adapt to the pandemic.

2020-21 | Collaborating For Change
We have been coming together with multiple stakeholders to confront Covid and create innovative solutions to support communities through this crisis. We have been standing shoulder-to-shoulder with our partners to adapt projects digitally wherever possible. Along with the government, local administration, NGOs, experts and communities, we have launched first-of-its-kind initiatives in the country and strengthened existing commitments to continue realizing our vision .
